This time I went through a remake of a game to which I have the most warm feelings and which has been passed more than once, like other parts of the series. It’s about the remake of the first Dead Space and finally I found out what the dead cosmos looks like in high resolution.

From the moment of the announcement until the release, my interest was very raised, because judging by the trailers they were going to make very close to the original, only more beautiful, graphony and more technological. I was not entirely sure that the 2008 cosmos directly needed such a cardinal remake. It seemed that there would be enough new textures in high resolution, but then the guys went on. I do not exclude the fact that such a dense alteration is associated with the desire to attract game masses to this series, because after the output of the controversial third part of the adventure of engineer Isaeck Clark, they paused. Now, a remake can give an opportunity to breathe a new life into a series and slowly break it all, making the necessary adjustments and useful innovations.
Whatever they plan there, I went through the game with pleasure, albeit not without questions that will surely come up along. Immediately after the remake, I ran to recall the original, thereby refreshing the knowledge of how it was before, simultaneously realizing how much everything has changed now. Here with the references to the game of 2008, my opinion about the remake will be closely connected, let me go into a detailed comparison, and only important differences, in my opinion, will affect.
I want to remind you that my opinion is very subjective and relies exclusively on my thoughts and impressions, so it can easily differ from your. And this is OK.
Plot
It was based on its basis, but telling it, it seems to me, it will be very appropriate. Naturally there will be spoilers, but since the original game was released already in 2008, the whole embargo for plots has long been vulgarized.
We play for the space engineer Isaac Clark, who is part of a small crew, flies at the distress signal to the star -of the “planetary gip” of the USG Ishimuru class. In the 37th century, mankind mines minerals with different planets with huge ships of stations, literally pulling out healthy pieces from the soil and attract them into space. On the planet, at this time, they break the colony and begin ore fishing. Here we fly to the rescue to such a ship. In addition to the work responsibilities, Isaac has its own skill interest on Ishimur. Dr. Nicole Brenan is working on the ship – the beloved passion of our main character. So we are already flying to work and a date.
Having somehow fastened to the purpose of his appointment, the repair team realizes that Ishimur does not guess signs of life in general, and people on this huge one should be the very neck. Only then the signs of life appear, though not quite those that I would like to see. It quickly turns out that the entire ship is in a very deplorable state and is teeming with some monsters. Unpleasant living creatures very skillfully tries to deal with the guests, as she has already done with almost the entire crew of the ship, and our grief Popadans have to divide, saving their asses who can how much.
The entire ship turns into a fatal trap, units were able to survive from the crew, various monsters are being bugged everywhere, Ishimur must also be repaired, otherwise the ship will fall apart in space. Naturally, Eisek is entrusted with all the dirty work, and, it is not clear, it is because he is already in a protective suit, or because he is an engineer, or because he does not speak the original, and silence is gold. By the way, from our team they were saved and oriented us on further actions: senior security officer – Zach Hammond and Master of Computer Systems – Kendra Daniels.
Gradually, we understand that all this terrifying bacchanalia, and it is terrifying because the game really scares, began due to an alien obelisk, which was found during the extraction of ore on auspices7. The obelisk drives crazy all who is in the reach of the reach of his field, and many begin to see dashing hallucinations and the dead loved ones asking us all unified. The one who dies next to the obelisk is reborn into a revived corpse – necromorph. Dead flesh becomes an excellent material for new monsters, so we have the most dead cosmos here. The fact that work on the planet where the obelisk was discovered is also emerging, generally illegal. Almost the entire crew of the ship is the adherents of the local religious sect of unitologists preaching through death with the advent of the divine artifact in the form of an obelisk, which else! So, in secret from the earthly government and from the uninitiated members of the crew, this enterprise began. We arrived successfully, I think!
Then there will be more, but this already affects the plot from other games, so in order to avoid even greater spoilers, you need to miss this paragraph. It turns out that the obelisk is generally man -made and made on the basis of the very first obelisk, which was found to know when it is on the ground and unsatisfied with the. As a result, earthlings began to rivet copies on distant planets, so that it is better to study the lost find, and all the information about these matters was classified. An offered Cossack even flew with us, who helped us the whole game, at the very last moment, who tried to steal the obelisk and dare it back to the ground from prying eyes.
In the final, we still return the obelisk to the aegid-7, put on top with a pebble from the cosmos and save ourselves on a small ship. In all this cycle of events and intrigue, the bitter truth will come up – Nicole, our beloved and valuable assistant in the course of the game – this is just a hallucination, and the real Nicole died before our arrival. It is possible that she wanders somewhere on the dark corridors of the ship in search of live flesh.
Frankly, even now the plot seems to me gorgeous. Everything develops very cool with advancement in the game, unexpected turns are really surprising, but it is interesting to follow the characters and appropriate to empathize. It is doubly nice that this was wound up in the game, where you could follow the light path and justify everything simply by creatures from space and alien artifacts. The remake is
The plot does not change, sites like 666 casino but complements it with new appropriate details, which, even if they bring fresh elements, but do not spoil what was already good. That is, we still get to Ishimura, we also run around the ship, engaged in the repair and shooting of hostile animals, we are also betrayed at the end, and Nicole is still a glitch from the obelisk, but!
Immediately at the start, we are thrown out of interesting details about the past of Isaac, and if we learned about the Church of Unitology somewhere in the middle of the game, then the mother of Isaac was a member of this very church. As in any sect, she poured family butterfly and property there, and after death even bequeathed her body and body to unitologists, which is generally noble. Naturally, dislike of this society appears earlier than the first necromorph.
It seemed interesting to me that it was Isaac who insisted on the final decision of Nicole to work on Ishimur. In the original, I did not see the information about this, although I could miss, but then they poked it very much in my face, after which you are even more deeply impregnated with empathy emotions to the main character.
The remake generally pays more attention to the population of the planetary gip. Not only new audio days and magazines appear in the game, but even full holograms showing the behavior of the Necromomorphs surviving during the invasion. Here, and more attention will be paid to the crazy Dr. Mercer, and the characters who arrived with us. Even the death of one of the heroes of the secondary castor made more dramatic and some more understandable or something, and not just leaked under the paws of a mini boss.
Absolutely new elements of the narrative – holograms. Now you can find out even more details of the extinction of Ishimura.
In the remake, in principle, on Ishimur at the time of our arrival there are more adequate survivors and some even find themselves in the final missions, which was not at all in the original. This is great! It seems to me that in terms of history and the plot here they perfectly refreshed the classics, added very appropriate plot strokes and left a strong foundation, which even now remains at a high level.
There is nothing to scold the game in this aspect, which only pleases and perfectly shows how the developers carefully treated the material from the original source.
Visually
The game was very prettier. Graphics and textures are the only thing for me that it looks growing in the original now, so visual changes have suggested in the first place and there are 23 years in space 23 years old. The new visual pleased my eye during the whole adventure. The dead cosmos began to look more than ever in detail and kinematographic.
Isaek’s costume is my childhood delight at the level of an iron man’s costume from the first part. In the first space, I was dragging the main character from the engineering combination and was looking forward to every new renewal of our clothes. It was very high to observe how armored plastins and all sorts of engineering things gradually increase. In remake, these feelings are repeated, but because of the details of the costume, observing this became even more pleasant.
And this applies almost everything! Necromorphs have become more ugly and diverse on details. What can I say here, pieces of flesh are now falling away from the guys and you can leave some knuckles from a fenerous freak. It’s even somehow embarrassed … Ishimura became more saturated and more colorful in engineering, and visual effects pleasantly delighted in the videos on the game engine and not only. It seems to be possible to finish it, but then I would like to be a little to be a little.
Who is this man who flaunts in a costume of space engineer? I don’t understand why, but the moska of the protagonist was very much transformed. It was so transformed that I did not recognize him at all. Why did it be when we have the usual face of Aiza, with whom we already rode this nightmare once, survived the titanium in the continuation and flaunted Tau Valantis in the snow in the third part. Now, under my control, a new incomprehensible person without habitual vegetation on my face and even with red hair.
Well, he would have sat in his helmet until the end of the game, as the classic Isaac did, but he takes it off at any opportunity. With a plus, he still talks a lot and considering that the protagonist did not say at all in the original, I got a change where I was more and more than suited. Perhaps I was very dispersed because of the little things, but it seemed to me unjustified changes. It would be much more pleasant for me to play for the already familiar character, given that I have to play a familiar game.
Even a new speech, in my opinion, is a controversial matter. Of course, the silent heroes of the video game of 2000 are no longer a trend and no one has been doing it for a long time. Only in the sum of the Silence of GG and the constant presence of it in the helmet helped me even more closely to relax with the protagonist, and in the terrible corridors of Ishimura with all these scarecrow, whistles and stuks – this is what the doctor prescribed. Now also tense, but somehow not so. You don’t have that sensation? No? Well, okay, I have here.
Nicole also affected the changes, so our lady of the heart is not so added to the age. I have nothing against and even I am, a kind of fan of the stiffler’s mother, but here is not a Styffler’s mother, firstly, and secondly, just why? Was it really impossible to do it somehow softer. So we get just two new main characters without any adequate reason. Moreover, other characters of the changes affected minimally. Hammond has not changed much at all, which can be said about other more or less flickering heroes.
What else? Ishimura became darker. In my opinion, much darker than required, and sometimes I felt in a gloomy sai-fi well. The original, I got, is generally awesome, how much the overall color scheme differs in two games. Yes, for a horror, darkness is good and even reasonably, but the original coped well without it, and here often the Potemki caused simply inconvenience.
Also, after the original, it seemed to me that in a remake of smaller local screamers. Of course, they are in terms of sound and pictures everything is done very high quality, but the point moments in the spirit of sudden sounds, attacks and prepared crypt situations are smaller. There was a thought that they had previously tried to endow the level of something special, and now they muffled the light and began to throw the monsters in Potemki. Well, a gender-neutral toilet appeared, also, by the way, in Potemki.
In terms of gameplay
The game was a little accelerated and made much more responsive to management. On the ship itself, completely new premises were added to recognizable locations. If earlier, the warehouses had to be squeezed with the help of power nodes, which were also needed for pumping, now access levels appeared. There are only four of them, and now you cannot get into all rooms until you collect the card key to special guys with this level. This directly leads us to side quests, also absent in the original. Just collecting access throughout the ship Ghost is one of them, but not the only. There are not as many corps as in some witcher, but they are and it is pleasant. It is useful to execute them and, in addition to valuable resources, you can find out additional details about the plot of the game.
Under these side effects, they perfectly replaced the move system for the ship. Previously, from the mission to the mission, we had a laid route, and if this was not due to the plot, then it is impossible to return to earlier levels. Immediately the whole ship can run almost on foot from the bridge to the very ass. Some stations for quick movement on the trolley still need to be opened, which is not necessary, and the trip from one place to another now reminds something of something in a terrible metro. You can look not at the loading screen, but at the insides of Ishimura, which you ride.
Isaac himself learned to fly in weightlessness. If earlier, the engineer had only magnetic boots and moved in a vacuum environment exclusively Superman flights from one wall to another, sticking like a suction cup, now we have our own repulsors, just like in the second part of the series, and we are calmly flying. It’s gorgeous, what to add here!
Let’s a little more about Eiseeca’s technical lotions. Again, as if straight from the second part, Kinesis Module became an excellent and comfortable weapon against enemies. He also worked in the original, but it was very sluggish and it was not very convenient to use it. Now the mechanics work as it should and it is useful and efficient to use it. The weapon also went under processing and the changes encourage almost all trunks to use. Now for each cannon there is an excellent animation of its selection, and most of our arsenal changed the alternative regime of fire. For example, the pulsed rifle had a strange shooting of 360 degrees, which I came in handy a little more than once. Now the machine gun shoots a contactless mine and the alternative was changed not only here. With all this, the discovery for me was a power cutter.
This is the thing that I usually found in the original and forgot to the very titers, because the necromorphs have a feature to quickly reduce the distance, and this gun has a feature for a long time to charge before the shot. Add my feature to miss at the right time and the gun goes nafig. Remake all this business is fixed and now it is a continuous energy beam. After receiving with this laser pointer, I did not part with her, and she became my favorite barrel, which I pumped and used at every opportunity.
By the way, now you can carry all the trunks with you and, if necessary, change the active set of fast access right on the go. In the old days, only four gunshot units were allowed to carry, the rest was stored in a warehouse in the store. If you want to change something, then you need to look for an issuing point. Also added to pumping unique upgrades for upgrades. Something can be bought, and for something you need to run around the dark corners, but things are useful and it’s worth it. With all this good, shooting began to shoot at times more pleasant, and these fragmenting carcasses of necromorphs are simply a separate delight for the eyes.
What is gone
In all this diversity, innovation? Well, if you do not remember the normal faces of the main characters, then a tense moment disappeared with the movements of the racks and a shoot from the hunter, the battles with the bosses have changed, some screamers left and that is the most sad … The great and mighty Russian language disappeared. I played PS and I had no other choice but to play in any language except Russian. On a PC, this problem seems to be not so relevant, but I would like subtitles on consoles.
I know English moderately, but there is often engineering English and the brain at these moments simply turned off. Whole pieces of narrative flew into the open space. This is especially painful when I doubled the original with complete gorgeous localization.
simple – remake came out cool. Now, when again in the genre there is a very dry and really high cosmic horror films in general, a little remake of the first space is just a song. The alteration came out very beautiful, fit into modern standards and polished to convenient and pleasant little things. At the same time, it is clear how to carefully treated the original and how they tried to improve the plot and history. Taking this into account, the remake does not take my warm feelings for the original space, and I did not get bored at all, passing it after a modern comrade. Yes, some mechanics could be made comfortable and yes, the graphics corresponds to the release date, but there is still its own atmosphere and its nuances, which the remake could not convey.
Summing up, I will be happy to outplay both of these parts and for me they occupy a secluded place in my heart. As for the remark specifically, it is worthy and reasonably. I definitely recommend everyone interested to familiarize yourself and plunge into the dead space of the model 2023. I really hope that this is only the first part and soon we will see the updated version of the next. It would be very interesting to look at it, because the deuce brought in some points the first part to the ideal.
